5 tips for a healthy immune system
Our immune system works daily at full speed to protect us against a multitude of attackers such as viruses, bacteria and the like. Generally people with a strong immune system are less frequently ill. But there are a few tricks with which you can strengthen your immune system to counteract annoying infections such as colds.
Superfoods (by which we don’t necessarily mean exotic and mostly overpriced foods such as acai berries or chia seeds) are characterised by the fact that they have a particularly high proportion of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. This nutrient density can have a positive effect on your health. You may already have many of these foods at home anyway, and you may be surprised at the effect they have:
Ginger
The ginger root is said to heat up the body from the inside and stimulate the blood circulation. This makes it more difficult for the pathogens to settle in the mucous membranes.
Garlic
Studies have shown that regular consumption of garlic has a positive effect countering high blood pressure and elevated cholesterol levels. The high amount of antioxidants, vitamin C, various minerals and sulphurous compounds are said to strengthen the body’s defences and effectively kill the allicin contained in the cold bacteria.
Cabbage
The typical winter vegetable should be consumed regularly during this season. The high content of antioxidants strengthens the immune system in a natural way. Varieties such as cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, green cabbage, red cabbage or broccoli contain the cold blocker vitamin C and vitamin E, which bind free radicals and thus protect the cells. Minerals such as iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium and folic acid also support the immune system.
Blueberries
The blueberry is also considered to be the super berry among the berries and, due to its very high amount of antioxidants, will prevent a variety of diseases. Its high content of vitamin C and potassium also has an anti-inflammatory effect.
Green Tea / Matcha
In the end it gets a bit more exotic with green tea and Matcha. Green tea is said to rid the body of dangerous pathogens because it has antiviral and antibacterial properties. Matcha is the powdered form of green tea and contains a high content of radical scavengers, vitamins, minerals and trace elements. With numerous antioxidants, it protects against cell-damaging free radicals and strengthens the body’s defences.
In short: strengthening the immune system naturally makes sense. Support your healthy diet through exercise in the fresh air, sufficient sleep, enough sunlight and as little stress as possible.
